Past Events

HSA strives to be a space where Columbia and Barnard students can come to learn about Haitian history and current politics and partake in Haiti's beautiful music, food, and dance. Throughout the year, HSA hosts events for the entire Columbia and Barnard community.

In the last couple of years, we hosted and co-sponsored:

  • Ayiti Cherie: an annual Haitian cultural showcase featuring great Haitian musicians, poets, comedians, dancers and artists.

  • Haitian-Dominican Relations: A discussion of the political and cultural relationship between Haiti and Dominican republic. Our past guest panelist has been Vice President of the Haitian Senate, Andris Riche.

  • World Leaders Forum with the Earth Institute: Meeting Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe.

  • Several social events: Parties, Potlucks, Poetry Nights

This year, we are looking forward to:

  • Our third annual Ayiti Cherie

  • Haitian-Dominican Relations with guest speaker from the Haitian Consul of NYC

  • A cosponsored discussion of Haitian revolutionaries and their impact in the Americas

  • Possible service trip to Haiti

  • More planned social events: Parties and Potluck
